Authentic Portuguese flavors at Sibaya

Beira Alta a new restaurant at Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom

Diners craving some full-flavoured meat and seafood can look no further than Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom’s new Portuguese restaurant, Beira Alta.

Offering traditional flavours and great quality food prepared using only the freshest ingredients, herbs and spices, Beira Alta’s popularity has spread from Johannesburg where the first branch was opened.

Beira Alta at Sibaya is a spacious restaurant, with touches of greenery, raw brick and wood adding a sense of warmth to the modern design.  “Our recipes are handed down from generation to generation, and have evolved into Portuguese cuisine with an African influence,” said Beira Alta Sibaya owner Laurindo Lagoa. “Our Head Chef Dumi (Augustine Ngube) knows all of our secret recipes and runs the show together with General Manager Naven Govender.”

The menu has earned a reputation for its flame-grilled chickens and platter piled high with pan-fried prawns, smothered in a blend of spices, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. “South Africans who crave red meat will enjoy Beira Alta’s large portions, accompanied by the chef’s unique secret sauces, guaranteed to keep any meat lover happy.”

Starters whet the palate for what’s to come, with chourico, calamari, grilled sardines, prawn rissoles and more. Traditional Portuguese dishes include beef and chicken, prawns, pregos, grilled cod, bitoque – steak topped with an egg – and seafood rice.

As Durbanites love their curries, Beira Alta Sibaya offers a choice of three, served with rice – paneer curry, stir-fry vegetable and chickpea and a Mozambican-style chicken and prawn curry. The menu also has a selection of salads and pasta dishes, piri-piri chicken, lamb chops, pork ribs and more, as well as dishes for children.

“Our dessert menu of course includes the famous Portuguese custard tarts, pasteis de nata, crème brulée, chocolate brownies and a pyramid chocolate log cheesecake,” Lagoa said.

“Our constant commitment to quality and a refusal to compromise is what keeps Beira Alta flourishing and growing, and we hope the Sibaya guests will keep coming back for more.”
