The Wife only has a few days before it showcases on Showmax , the country is currently on their toes waiting to see the visual of Hlomu.

We were fortunate enough to have a chat with Bonko Khoza who will play the lead role, Mqhele Zulu, without putting many words he is very excited about playing this role.

Q :I think the great thing about this show is that both leads are rising stars, how does that make you feel?

A: It feels humbling, I have been in the game for 7 years. The fact that I went from being an extra to driving a whole show means a lot.

Q: You are playing Mqhele and that is everyone’s man crush, which means everyone will be rooting over you. How did you prepare for the role of Mqhele?

A:The only thing I had to do was to approach it from the actor’s point of view, plus I had read the book. An Actor prepares and I did exactly that.

Q.Was there any pressure while filming

A: There was no pressure at all, I was chilled because I know from the moment I auditioned they picked me because I could pull it off.

Q: We are all excited about the show, it must have been a dream filming, have you always been a fan of Hlomu The wife book series or it’s something new?

A: Yeah I did read the book years ago.

Q: Mqhele is big and everyone is looking forward to seeing him visually, how was your experience playing Mqhele ?

A: That’s tough, I had to do a lot of research to play Mqhele and be him for a moment.

Q: Do you and Mqhele have any similarities?

A: I don’t think we do but getting into his character required a lot, it involved learning to dress up like him. This means I had to learn what he likes, what he eats. This does not mean we are the same though, we are different. I grew in Joburg in a different school and loving parents but with him, it’s different with so many traumas that leads him to do certain things and I could almost feel sorry for him.

Q: Are you familiar with the taxi industry? If not  How was the environment filming in taxi rank?

A: Yes! I have been using public transport for the longest time. I have never been to KZN though and on that side, you just know when you are there. It’s a  different culture but also popular so all I had to do was to try to fit in. This took a lot and we had to be taught some things.

Q: You had the pleasure of working with some legends and popular people who have been in the industry for the longest time, how was that for you?

A: Again for me, all of this is humbling, it feels like a dream. It inspired me to work even hard and hanging with them made me belong. I just know I belong and going to do even more great things.

Q: What can people expect? Any surprises from Bonko or Mqhele?

A: You can expect a lot from Bonko, more projects, and great things I am currently working on.

Q.What sort of acting roles will you be seeking in the future?

A: I will put this to the universe, I hope I get to play Shaka on his upcoming project. That’s one thing I hope God helps me with.
