TECHNOLOGY: It’s time to STOP thinking SMALL – Utilizing Social Media To Amplify Your Brand Online

Social media being the most preferred and main amplification platform for any message, it connects us with a large number of people in a short space of time. Businesses have utilized social media to spread their message across to their market at an affordable rate. Utilization of social media could be the breaking point for your business. Considering using social channels for your business can bring positive returns on your investment.

Global speaker and South African entrepreneur Vusi Thembekwayo once beautifully articulated this statement in his Suits & Sneakers – Small business lie video online: “ Each and every person in this room has a Facebook account yet the creator of Facebook doesn’t know any of you exist, because the power of what Americans do is that they teach their children to think and build for the global community. We teach them to think and build for the guy in the corner.”

Hoosuite in 2018 released these staggering global figures: There are over 4 billion people in the world who use the internet. Of those, 3.1 billion are active on social media. To quantity this further, if the global population is estimated to be around 7.7 billion, then 42% of the world’s total population is living on social media. When you take the above figures and marry them to the introductory quote by Vusi Thembekwayo, you’re simply driven to this conclusion that it’s time for us to stop thinking small.

Vusi in in his Suits & Sneakers – Small business lie video tries to dismiss the concept of Small Businesses thinking of themselves as “small” by highlighting the world as their potential oyster. As the famous Oprah Winfrey puts it, we are global citizens who should not be limited by nationality, race and geographical location. We are all part of the global movement, and social media enables Small Businesses to tap into the global market.

It would be easy to advice Small Business owners to invest in Social Media Managers who would help them with Content Creation, study various Social Media Analytics and Algorithms and how achieve the optimum Search Engine Optimization for their business. But the reality is all this information for a Small Business owner can be futile if their business model is centered their community. Small Business owners need to start viewing and pitting their businesses with their global counterparts. This can be done by incorporating Social Media to sell their business model to the world and personally invest their time to research their potential global clientele through powerful Social Media Platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. Small Business owners, its time to stop thinking small.
