Meropa Casino announces new appointments for General Manager and Gaming Manager

Sun International is pleased announced the appointment of Sammy Mokhele as General Manager of the company’s Meropa Casino in Polokwane.

Sammy will take up the role on 01 November 2020 having held it from 2008 to 2013 previously.

He moves from his current position as Casino and VIP Services General Manager at Sun City Resort.

“I am pleased to be going back to Meropa to lead the team to reposition the property post Covid-19. The guest feedback to date is positive regarding Meropa’s adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols and I will be building from this achievement. Meropa is poised for growth however the pandemic remains one of the biggest threats to watch and mitigate against,” he said.

Sammy has solid experience within the Sun International Group, having previously worked at Meropa Casino in Polokwane as General Manager from 2008 to 2013 prior to his move to Sun City.

He joined Sun City on 01 August 2013 as the GM for Sun City Hotel and Casino and later assumed responsibilities for the International VIP Rebate Business.

He has held a number of roles within the group, including Graduate Management Trainee (SI); Manpower Manager (SI); HR Manager (Meropa); Unit HR Manager for Sun City Hotel, Cabanas and Vacation Club and HR Manager Carnival City.

Sammy has a BA Degree from the University of the North (Turfloop), has completed the International Executive Development Programme (WITS), The International Executive Development Programme (Gaming – Reno, Nevada), Senior Managers Programme (Pretoria) and Coaching for Performance (Stellenbosch).

Meet the New Gaming Manager for Meropa Casino

Sun International has announced the appointment of Khensani Mailula as Gaming Manager with effect from 15 October 2020.

She will report to the Sammy Mokhele, the Polokwane casino’s new general manager.

With 15 years of Sun International experience, Mailula started out at Meropa Casino as a Dealer in 2005, before progressing to Gaming Technician. Since then, she has moved around the country accompanied by various promotions before returning to Meropa Casino:

  • Sun City Resort, initially as a Senior Gaming Technician, then as a Gaming Shift Manager
  • Flamingo Casino in Kimberley and then Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein Gaming, as a Technical Manager
  • Time Square Casino as a Gaming Floor Manager

“I am, delighted to be bringing the skills I have learnt across the group back with me to Meropa,” said Mailula.

Mailula is currently studying towards her B.Com in Business Informatics through UNISA.
