When outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) is being released from prison, he rounds up his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge. Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), his right and left-hand men — hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler)—and a surprising adversary-turned-ally. Rufus Buck has his fearsome crew, including “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose. Directed by Jeymes Samuel, written by Samuel and Boaz Yakin, produced by Shawn Carter, James Lassiter, Lawrence Bender, and Jeymes Samuel, and featuring a red hot soundtrack and a stunning all-star cast, including Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo, LaKeith Stanfield, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi, R.J. Cyler, Damon Wayans Jr., Deon Cole with Regina King and Idris Elba revenge has never been served colder.
The Opening starts with a tense sense where we are moved by real-life people who experienced brutality. Jonathan’s performance is impeccable. The storyline draws you to the show.
The plot thickens at the end of a movie where Nat Love discovers something about himself and his father that could change his current decision. Does he stop what he has planned all his life for this news or does he continue honoring his father’s legacy??
What’s right about it?
The leading ladies aren’t just ladies of the show, their dominance is impeccable. Regina king and Zazie are giving the best performance as always.
Two beautiful black queens facing each other on a scene was really interesting, the scene has so much power. The dialogue draws you and cinematory is out of this world. Regina delivered a beautiful monologue.
The music will draw you to the show, the acting keeps you glued and every character delivers and has an interesting storyline. Each character had a story to follow up and deliver.
Idris Elba playing a villain is so unexpected but he makes it hard for you to hate him. His performance is out of this world. He delivered his last scene with Jonathan Majors that is Oscar-worthy. They both show a side that is so unexpected.
Jim gives us a comic side to the show and makes us laugh with his reactions and obsession with guns. Jim has similarities with Cherokee who he challenges on the show and the expected happens. His platonic relationship with his friend Bill is interesting.
The casting of a young Nate Love and Older was so perfect. It is hard to explain but when you see you will realize what I meant.
What’s wrong with it?
It’s really hard criticizing a movie when it is this perfect. They made us have some sympathy for the villain of the show to justify all the stuff he did and the writer played with our emotions there.
Zazie beets playing stagecoach Mary was also really the problem because Miss Mary was an actual Darkskinned woman.
In conclusion, the movie is perfect overall and there is a scene where they are united, they plann an attack together and all start singing. That was beautiful.
I would rate the movie with 5 out of 5 stars.
