Desperate times, calls for desperate measures, and that’s exactly what the current COVID-19 pandemic has exposed to the whole world. Things we thought we knew and were normal have quickly turned taboo, forcing us to unlearn some of them and adapt to the new ways of doing things. Going digital is on top of the list to reiterate social distancing to protect our vulnerable scholars.
Depending on where you grew up and what era you grew up in, the term ‘Abo Malume’ will not be a concept too foreign to you. They are the ‘uncles’ that transport children to and from schools in their often-unflattering kombi’s, ventures and bakkies. However, with the ever-changing world, a lot has improved. We now find ‘Abo aunty’ the female drivers who also transport scholars, as well as the usage of modern and more exclusive vehicles such as sedans and SUV’s to offer this service.
Our new and innovative app, just took things the scholar transportation industry to a whole new level. With the Fourth Industrial Revolution in mind, we have taken ‘abo malume nabo aunty’ and digitized them. ‘Working hand in hand with other organizations, the app will give parents a peace of mind, comfortable and secure transportation for their children, as well as a safe, efficient and child-friendly transport solution. This will help transport challenges that are currently faced by children, such as; reckless accidents, overloading and car breakdowns,” says Tumelo Motaung, co-founder and operations manager at Scholar Route.
The app is for parents who need a scholar transport solution that can ensure safety and reliability. Scholar Route is a stress-free and convenient daily ride-share platform that runs throughout the day, also allowing the scholars access to services for extra mural activities as well. The app also caters for driver partners who want to start or take their transport business to a new level by saving time and money through optimized routes.
Scholar Route is partnering with dedicated and thoroughly vetted drivers that are supported by our latest technology to keep parents informed about their children’s whereabouts at all times. The app has an easy online payment procedure, an efficient tracking device, as well as a push notification system to keep parents updated throughout the trip. This enables a smooth parent-driver communication process. The vehicles in service also undergo a rigorous vetting process to ensure they are road worthy.
The services are built to remedy the safety regulations and communication gaps that exists between parents, schools, government and the scholar transport system.
The app will be available to service schools in Table View, Parklands, Sunningdale and Bloubergstrand suburbs in Cape Town, with more area coverage coming soon to other suburbs and cities.
