Commonwealth Games champion, Akani Simbine, lived up to expectations showcasing his fine form by bolting to victory at the seventh leg of the Wanda Diamond League series in Rome, Italy.
“I feel like I executed this race really well,” Simbine said. “The last two races I struggled with my start, but not here, so finishing my season like this is great,” he added.
Arthur Cisse of the Ivory Coast took the runner-up spot behind the South African star in 10.04. The shining star in the race was evidently Simbine. Simbine won the men’s 100m race in 9.96 seconds, crossing the line just 0.04 outside the season’s best he set in Pretoria in March.
“Well done to Akani, coach and support staff,” said Aleck Skhosana, the President of Athletics South Africa. “He has also begun to dip below the 10 seconds barrier and indicates the level of great form that he has achieved.”
