Mbali Luthuli is a young woman from Pietermaritzburg but now based in Zululand in Mtubatuba. She graduated in Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University for both Diploma in forestry and B.tech in forestry. She currently works for Njojo construction managing Mondi operations at Umfolozi area in Nyalazi and Mtuba plantation. Her current responsibilities include ensuring that all operations are done safely taking into consideration, the environment and ensuring quality. It also incudes ensuring the sustainability of the business and dealing with all matters relating to the stuff or workers, it also to make sure that all operations are as per Mondi standards with regards to modernisation. Mbali has also worked at MTO as a silviculture forester and also as a planning forester based on enumerations, data base management and managing Micro-forest. She has a total of 5 years and 6 months experience in the forestry industry.
“So far forestry has been an exciting journey that keeps on shaping me day by day, especially working at the contractor level. Hard working and believing in excellence has been one of the things in my backpack for my journey in forestry which has assisted me to be able to obtain an award of best silviculture operations in Zululand within Mondi at Umfolozi,” said Mbali.
“Working closely with people it is something that I enjoy, and seeing people that I work closely growing and seeing their life changes is something that brings joy to me. This has been something that always bring joys to me even during varsity days I was awarded for being the mentor of the year for 2013. Even my management style includes mentoring and identifying those with capabilities to grow,” she continued.
